More Than A Medical Issue: The Emotional Aspects
of Infertility and its Treatments Explored in New Book

Girlfriend to Girlfriend: A Fertility Companion

UPTON, Mass. - For Kristen Magnacca, infertility was a life-changing experience.

Being unable to conceive a child changed her personality, how she viewed the world, and even her relationship with her husband and with God. She was unable to focus on her work, lost all sense of joy in her life, and eventually slipped into a deep depression.

Magnacca and her husband, Mark, experienced treatment after treatment - invasive surgery after invasive surgery. From Mark's experiences in the "spank tank" to the emergency room where Kristen's first pregnancy came to a shocking and depressing end, Girlfriend to Girlfriend: A Fertility Companion reveals the most personal experiences faced by those who endure modern medicine's answer to infertility.

Since giving birth to a happy and healthy boy, Magnacca has dedicated herself to helping other women and couples experiencing fertility problems. In Girlfriend to Girlfriend: A Fertility Companion (available in paperback and electronic formats from 1stBooks Library), Magnacca shares knowledge and insights gained during her emotional three-year experience with infertility.

the hardest lesson of her life. Had she known then, what she knows now, Magnacca says she would have been spared years of emotional anguish.

  • How to keep your marriage together when you feel like you are falling apart.
  • How to take "mind vacations" while experiencing physically invasive procedures.
  • How to focus on the positive when the negative seems ever-present.

Magnacca's insights provide critical strategies for those traveling through the difficult terrain of infertility and help friends and family members better understand the challenges of infertility.

"Navigating the emotional minefield of infertility is heartbreaking when you face it alone," Magnacca says. "I would have appreciated the companionship and understanding of someone who had already gone through it."

"Girlfriend to Girlfriend is a wonderful and personal story. I feel a greater sense of hope after reading it. I am positive this book has helped me face my situation and know it will continue to help others." - Tina

"I've learned a great deal from Girlfriend to Girlfriend, most specifically from the tips on overcoming anxiety and insomnia. I now write down five things I am thankful for each night. I've been sleeping soundly for two straight weeks." - Carol
